This day honours the children who never returned home, along with the survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities. Understanding and learning the truth about our history are vital components of the reconciliation process, and public schools play a key role in this journey.
In the days leading up to September 30, ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Ö±²¥ students and staff across the district will engage in meaningful learning opportunities to honour the history and legacy of residential schools.

Orange Shirt Day
The ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Ö±²¥ Board of Education is committed to reconciliation and invites all members of our school communities to participate in Orange Shirt Day events, to recognize and raise awareness about the history and legacies of the residential schools in Canada.
The orange shirt is a symbol of the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. This day highlights the importance of recognizing the survivors of residential schools and demonstrates our collective commitment to ensuring that Every Child Matters.
